6 Tips to Make that Morning Walk / Jog / Run

We’ve all gone through this. At the end of the day, we feel a bit heavy, commit to wake up bright and early the following day to do some exercise and then for one reason or the other… we just don’t do it. So to inspire you to make it tomorrow morning, here are some tips for you.

  1. Set the alarm clock to what time you should wake up… and then place the alarm clock FAR from your bed so that you’re forced to get up and turn it off.
  2. Prepare your exercise clothes. If you have to go to the gym, prepare your sports bag already. If you just need to go out near your neighborhood, then have your exercise clothes, socks, shoes (the works!) ready and laid out on a chair in your bedroom. This way, you’ll stare at it and feel guilty to the point where you hopefully drag yourself out of bed and go out!
  3. Announce your intention to others. Yes, call your mom, friend, brother - anyone! - and tell them what you intend to do. Knowing that they’ll be calling back tomorrow to ask you how it went, is good motivation for you to push through with it.
  4. Try and rope somebody to join you. A lot of people find exercising a lonely (and ergo boring) chore so see if there’s someone who nay want to join you in your morning exercises so that you can encourage each other.
  5. Join a group. One time, I joined an ‘early morning yoga group’ that started off its sessions with a 30-minute power walk. After that, we went to the instructors home for 40 minutes of yoga. We only met once a week but I can tell you, the effects were wonderful! PLUS, since I paid in advance for all 12 sessions, you can bet I joined them every time!
  6. Compile your favorite dance music the night before. There are tunes that just MOVE you. So the night before you intend to go out, compile a few old favorites, songs you haven’t heard in a while, and put them on your MP3 player. Looking forward to hearing the music will motivate you to go out. And listening to the music will make the exercise routine fly by in no time!
