More Weight Loss Diet Tips that Have Personally Worked for Me…

Over the years, I’ve had so many weight loss tips thrown my way that I was literally drowning in all that ‘good advice’. I succeeded in the end, but looking back, a lot of those well-meaning weight loss tips where a lot of hullabaloo! Since then, I’ve simply come to realize two very important things.

One: The word ‘dieting’ has received a lot of undeserved flak. Somehow, dieting meant ‘limiting my food intake’ or ‘forever giving up all those things I like to eat’. As a result, I was subconsciously delaying going on a diet forever, which of course, only made me NOT address my weight. So what happened? I just realized that this is all about choosing to live healthier. Period. All of a sudden…

  • Dieting meant choosing healthier meals.
  • Dieting meant exercising more so that I look and feel better inside out.
  • Dieting simply meant living better.

Once I realized this, I was all for dieting!

Two: Dieting is never a ‘one-size-fits-all-affair’. What worked for cousin Jane, doesn’t necessarily mean it would work for me. If you want to find a diet that will truly work for you, you need to seek out the one that suits your specific gender, age, current level of activity, any allergies, and so on.

And even then, what you choose may not end up The One. That’s still fine! Keep on seeking. Just be sure you’re not caught up in a loop of procrastination.

Three: I must exercise. I realized that in my quest for the ‘fast, magic cure’, I was only delaying dieting and ergo putting on more weight. In the end though, more than anything, I got a bit spooked when I realized I was starting to feel lethargic.

At that point, I was sleeping too many hours, waking up late so that I felt the days were shorter. I also began to feel that I’d rather stay in and eat in than see friends or go out because just the prospect of it seemed ‘tiring’. When I started feeling this way, I just KNEW i was headed for trouble!

So I decided that I was going to start exercising in the morning! It wasn’t easy but even just a few minutes of walking outside changed me. As the cliche goes… the first step is always the hardest, and so it was. But after that, it was just a snowball of right choices.

So go ahead. Start making that one, right choice tomorrow. Whatever it is, be it eating a bit less, grocery shopping for healthier food, throwing away junk food, or walking for 15 mins in the morning… just do it! Really, you owe it to yourself.
