One of my favorite TV channels in the world is the Food Channel. Now, that may come across as ‘weird’ to you especially since this is a diet blog but really, one of the main reasons I’ve actually LOST weight is because I’ve gone back to cooking my own food! Of course, I still go and eat out but this time I’m 100% more mindful of which restaurants to go to for meals.
Even the highly successful diet program (the one I follow!), Fatloss 4 Idiots, highly recommends going back to basics and cooking for yourself as a way to lose weight. You see, today is all about fast meals, fast food, and yes… fast obesity!
Somewhere along the way, we’ve forgotten that WE ARE WHAT WE EAT and chugging down all those fats has led to today’s obesity epidemic. The equation is simple really: to live healthy, you must eat healthy; and to eat healthy mostly means to cook your own food. Why? Because this enables you to control what you put in your foods.
At restaurants, it’s a lot about looks and presentation. And to give foods that ‘glossy’ look, tons of butter and additives may have been thrown in there! Compare this to a simple meal you’ve made for yourself (and your family) at home, where you KNOW that only the best and freshest ingredients have been used. Wouldn’t you opt for the latter?
If you’re a real novice in the kitchen like I used to be, then do what I did. Start watching cooking programs and pick out recipes that are really healthy for you. Start investing in a few cookbooks for beginners. If budget permits, why not join a local food club, a cooking class or maybe even a take a culinary vacation at some exotic place?
All of these will not only educate you how to cook but also make you become more passionate about food ingredients and cooking itself. And think of all the adventures you’ll be taking and new friends you’ll meet! And you know what they say… cook well and good health will follow!
Go back to healthy cooking at home. It’s really one of the best thing you can do for yourself.

I totally agree. Cooking for yourself is the healthiest gift you can give yourself and your family. Even one meal eaten at home everyday will improve the number of actual nutrients you are eating. Eating out is as good as eating junk.
