Oprah Winfrey - Professional Diet Expert

If anyone has earned the title of being a professional diet expert, it is Oprah Winfrey.  Oprah’s ability to reach out to others has always been part of her charm. She was actually fired from one of her early jobs in broadcasting for shedding tears during a broadcast of a fire. Although this may have spelled the end of her career as a broadcasting journalist, it is that exact display of empathy that made her so beloved with the public.

When Oprah Winfrey began as a talk show host in Chicago, she was decidedly overweight. Since the early 1980s, Oprah Winfrey has battled weight problems publicly. In 1987, after dieting and exercising for over a year, she revealed to her studio audience her new, trim figure. She was finally able to get into a size 10 pair of jeans, which had been her goal. With so many individuals having experienced this uphill battle of the bulge, her struggle with weight loss endeared her to the public even more.

But Oprah Winfrey did not keep the weight off. She gained back some of the weight and was often featured in tabloids because of her weight gain. Any celebrity is fair game for the tabloids, especially those who dare to gain weight or leave the house without makeup.  Oprah Winfrey received her fair share of criticism from this weight gain.

Oprah Knows that Quitters Never Win in the Dieting Game…

In the 1990s, Oprah gained most of the weight that she lost back. She still, however, did not give up on dieting. She believed that she could lose the weight and stay slim and embarked on a series of diets. Her career continued to skyrocket and she constantly revealed different diet secrets on her show and she also hired a personal chef. A book was written on her diet struggles and how she planned to lose weight. Throughout the 1990s, Oprah went from losing weight to gaining weight, but never giving up the fight.

Unlike other celebrities that endorsed systems or products that have helped them lose weight, Oprah Winfrey believes in losing weight the old fashioned way - through a proper diet and exercise. In recent years, she has slimmed down considerably and today, looks better than ever. While she is not the slim size she was once in the late 1980s, she is far from being morbidly obese. She continues to try to maintain her figure and keep her weight down, despite a thyroid condition that caused her to gain 20 pounds. She is often featured on the cover of her own magazine and looks fit and attractive, especially for a 54 year old woman!

Oprah Winfrey is one example of how those who battle the bulge should not give up and should stick to their weight loss plan, even if they fall off the diet wagon now and then.  At 54, she is considered to be one of the most influential women in the world and is also among the wealthiest women in the world as well. She has inspired millions who have also struggled with weight loss issues with her “never give up” attitude.
